Encounter The Glass Counter

Encounter The Glass Counter

Thanks to my mother- in- law who recently discovered a picture in a magazine of a glass countertop, unaware that there were various options out there other than granite or marble that are equally attractive. It provoked her to ask me about them. Playing off that inspiration, I decided that today’s blog would be all about glass. Specifically… glass countertops and the distinctive look that they can give any countertop.

Glass is known for its eye-catching, translucent beauty, and is as durable as most other countertop materials. Because of its price and distinctive look, designers suggest using it as a magnificent accent countertop, rather than throughout the kitchen. In general, you can expect to pay in the range of $50 per square foot for glass countertops not including shipping or installation. That price can vary widely depending on how much effort you made into looking for discount products and on how elaborate your kitchen decorating scheme is. If you go with a “standard” glass countertop installation, that will keep your costs closer to that general estimate. But if you go with a textured glass or you customize the look you want, it is natural that you can expect that price to go up.

Glass countertops can be imbedded with a variety of textures and colors.

Despite what some may assume at first, glass countertops are as durable as most other countertop materials and they do not stain quickly.

Imagine the possibilities of recycled glass countertops and recycled porcelain countertops in your kitchen or bathroom. Another great way to cut the cost and make a purchase choice that is ecologically correct is to go with recycled glass countertops. The quality is just as good but the cost is noticeably lower.

Recycled Glass Countertops

Customizable and eco-friendly, countertops from Glass Recycled are easy to maintain and will last for life of your house. Made out of 100% recycled glass and porcelain aggregates, glass is available in a variety of custom countertop sizes. Recycled glass countertops are perfect for remodeling or new construction, and are affordable and easy to install for an experienced countertop fabricator.

No glass countertop is exactly the same with different glass colors, porcelain and finish options, your kitchen, bathroom or other countertop will be one-of-a-kind. There are over 400+ different styles already created, but with the assistance of a fabricator or designer you can also design your own unique look.

GlassSLAB, a glass fabricator of recycled glass material makes each countertop by experienced terrazzo artisans inTexas. Their 100% recycled glass, porcelain and color-customizable resin countertops can be shipped worldwide. If you have a schematic of your finished project with measurements, any glass fabricator can help you figure out the number and size of slabs you’ll need.

Glass vs. Granite

Many customers ask how recycled glass countertop compares to granite. They’re very similar in durability, lifespan, cost and beauty, but glass lets you make an artistic and environmental statement. Granite is taken from the earth, whereas glass respects the earth by reusing glass bottles that would otherwise mount in landfills.

Recycled Glass Countertop Maintenance

Care for your recycled glass countertops is easy. Highly resistant to household stains, they can be cleaned with neutral cleaners and polished with a professional grade marble/granite polish. And although glass is resistant to heat and scratches, fabricators recommend using a cutting board and heat-proof trivet.

Vetrazzo

Vetrazzo recycled glass countertops are both beautiful and functional, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional surfaces. The recycled glass countertops are made using 100 percent recycled glass and provide an eco-conscious alternative to traditional kitchen and bath surfaces. A green substitute for granite, marble and other quarried stone and tile products, the recycled glass can help a building obtain LEED certification and is a versatile and durable surface that can also be used as a wall covering or flooring, as well as for architectural cladding, mantles and fireplace surrounds.

The largest portion of Vetrazzo recycled glass comes directly from curbside recycling programs, while other suppliers include industrial sources, windows, dinnerware, stemware, windshields, stained glass, laboratory glass and a variety of other sources, including outdated traffic lights and building demolition.

Since each piece is carefully crafted for beauty and endurance, buyers receive a Certificate of Transformation that details its origins when they purchase a Vetrazzo product. Vetrazzo comes in a variety of dazzling hues, including several shades of blue and green, champagne, flint and amber. Go to http://www.vetrazzo.com/eng/products/color_palette to find your favorite….

Here are a few of my favs and in the right space and application they would be absolutely stunning!

Skyy Bottles & Patina Cubist Clear HollywoodSage

Heat and scratch resistant, it is easy to care for, thanks to the fact that it is less porous than concrete or marble and is as hard as some types of granite. Over time, the surface will develop an attractive patina that will help to enhance its appearance.

Let’s think out of the box. Glass is a Green Design, withstanding the test of time with it’s durability and is distinctive in color and style.

I would love to know if YOU would you consider it for your next project?
