No matter the changes and improvements in home security we’ve seen over the years, we read every day about burglaries and trespassing in the country and each time we do, our heart sinks a little doesn’t it? How is it that we are now in 2016 and this is still happening? Is it carelessness by us, brainier burglars or ineptitude on the home security front? Let’s find out.
Take a Moment
So it’s true that we have a lot more things to think about nowadays when locking up our house? Do we have our smart phone? Our tablet? Did I email the boss about my holidays next year? Well in that respect, we could forget to turn the key or slam the door properly. It’s just all so confusing isn’t it? But how is it that so many families in the US have been robbed once in their lifetime? I mean we aren’t all completely losing our heads are we? That’s a lot of questions we have to answer. I mean, if anything we are getting more safety conscious. A lot of people have to run back to their house and check their doors and windows even after walking down the road just to see they actually have locked up properly. So there is a big question mark over us but I haven’t completely lost my faith in humanity quite just yet.
Burglar
There’s always that stereotype of the ditsy burglar isn’t there? The one that always makes that valuable mistake and gets caught by the police in the end. Well unfortunately this doesn’t always happen. Sometimes they do actually get away with it. Some of them are extremely cunning and have been planning this heist on your house for weeks. Others just do it on the cuff after seeing your shiny car and expensive loft extension. But we put the question of brainier burglars to the forefront, and in this respect, again it’s difficult to answer. It’s not impossible to say that the burglar may have done his prior research on your particular security system before breaking and entering. It’s unlikely but possible. If they are that brainy, then they really should know better.
Home Security
So now, on we go to the newest items of home security. Ones that should be doing their utmost best in preventing these aforementioned burglars from taking our precious valuables. By skimming through a plethora of alarm reviews, we should know what standard of security we are getting. There’s so many different types of home security out there but are they really all up to snuff?
A lot of present day items now require smart phones which is good in the respect that emails and messages get immediately sent to you when there is a break in and if you’re away, you can get a friendly neighbor to go in and quickly check that everything is ship shape.
However what happens if you are in a meeting and your phone is turned off? Or if you leave it at home or worse lose it? Maybe, you’d be better with your own home motion sensor personal alarm. Something that you can put on your key ring and goes off in your pocket if there’s something moving in your house. Again, this could be seen as a sound proposition but what if it’s too trigger happy? Maybe the thing moving in your house is your cat or dog and in the end after ignoring it the next couple of times, it could end up being like the fable ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’.
Price to Pay
Home security has moved on the times. We certainly have to appreciate that. There’s nothing like living in the past. But on the flip side, it has increasingly got more expensive too. Yes, there’s no price to pay when looking after your family and all your valuables but surely you shouldn’t be obliged to move heaven and earth when talking about security. An installation fee is almost always required too which is normally very expensive and who really trusts our clumsy Dad into doing his own D.I.Y and putting it all up himself?
Whether we trust our recent home security is still an issue that definitely needs more debate. But the big question is what else can we do to improve it? We have a lot of technology available to us nowadays such as the best outdoor solar powered lights and surely there’s a cap on what we can do and what we can’t do.
Be smart, stay safe!
