Too many people are scared of displaying art in their home. But good artwork can have a serious effect on the lives of the people living in that space. So it is a terrible shame to miss out on this. Read on to find out more.
Selecting the right piece of art
To get the most benefit out of the decoration that you chose to display in your home, you must select the right piece.
Emotion
For example, many people choose the decoration in their home based on an emotional reaction. It could be that they choose a picture of the family because of the feeling of belonging and love that they conjure. Or it could be that they prefer paintings of their ancestors because of the sense of history, or class they convey.
Abstract paintings are also capable of conjuring emotions in us such as sadness, calm or anger depending on the colors and brush strokes used.
So don’t discount the emotional reaction you have when choosing a picture or painting. As this is a valid reason to include or overlook a piece, you are considering.
Decor
Of course, there is another school of thought in interior design that is not focused so much on the raw emotion that a piece of the earth creates in the viewer, but more on how well that item fits in with the overall scheme of decoration.
This is also valid because the art we pick must fit correctly into the decor that we already have. Otherwise, it can feel incongruous and make spending long periods of time in the room where it is hung, uncomfortable.
Where to display your art
Placement of painting, photographs and other objects d’art in their home is another aspect of the process that leaves people scratching their heads.
Just bear in mind that you want to show it off the piece to its best potential. But you also don’t want it to dominate the entire room. So how it is possible to achieve this balance?
Well, balance is really the key in the this. Large pieces or groups of small pieces need to be in balance to look right. Smaller pieces can often be balanced against themselves if you plan out a picture wall correctly.
However larger pieces need to be balanced with other features in the room such as fireplaces or headboards. This can be problematic if you don’t currently have these in the room that you are decorating. But it is solvable if you just must have that perfect piece of artwork displayed in your home.
To sort this, find a suitable headboard, or even make one, or install a fireplace, which will add to the room as well as balancing your picture. You can look at electric fireplaces that are easy to install.
Of course, if you don’t want to do that much work just to hang a picture then, getting smaller images and placing around the room is a much better idea.
