With the spring season on the way, most of us are looking to inject a little spring decorating to freshen up our home. Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite as wonderful as a space that feels clean, crisp and beautiful! If this is something you’re hoping to achieve this spring, here are some of the ways you can go about it!
Deep Clean and De-clutter
The first step to spring decorating would be a fresh spring feeling. Which of course, starts with spring cleaning your home. Pull out every drawer and cupboard, organizing what’s inside. Vacuum behind large furniture, wash curtains, clean windows and do all of the jobs that usually get missed on a regular day of cleaning. You could hire a carpet cleaner or have a company come in and do them for you. You could put your winter clothes in storage and bring out your spring/summer outfits. Open the windows to get that chilly, clean, fresh air circulating. All of this will bring a ‘new home’ clean, fresh calmness to the rooms.
Switch Up Your Color Palette
Decorating in neutrals and then using an accent shade to bring in color allows you to easily switch it up each season. You can do this by keeping walls and floors white, cream or gray and then using soft furnishings and accessories in colors and patterns of your choice. You could use cheery colors, pastels, and floral to bring some spring-like charm in your home. Throws, cushion covers, and lampshades for example are all really easy to change at the turn of each season.
Use an Air Humidifier/ Dehumidifier/ Purifier As Needed
An air purifier will remove things like smoke, pollen, and dust from the air giving you a far cleaner and fresher feeling space. A dehumidifier will absorb excess moisture from the air, if you find you get a lot of condensation and mold in the home this is a great way to combat that. On the flip side, very dry air leeches moisture from the skin and can cause coughing and sinus problems. In this case, an air humidifier that puts moisture back into the air is the way to go. You could check out humidifier reviews online to see if this is something that would benefit you. Either way, getting the air quality right is important for both your health and the health of your home.
Display Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers are cheery and really brighten up your home. If you’re not a fan of using to much color in the decor, flowers can help bring a splash of color in a non- permanent way. While flowers can be expensive, you can find cheap yet pretty bouquets at any grocery store and will last a good two weeks. They bring freshness and life into the home, plus it’s psychologically proven that they cheer you up too!
Choose New Home Fragrances
Autumn winter scents are all about warm spices such as cinnamon, ginger and vanilla. For spring decorating, it’s time to go with something a little lighter. Clean cotton/ linen fragrances work well, soft florals and fruits. You will need to change your candles, bring out your essential oils and reed diffusers and other home fragrances you have dotted around the home.
