Another season, another interior design trend. There is no doubt that they come and go like the weather. Most of the time, a homeowner can ignore them as flashes in the pan. However, there are ones which stick and don’t go away. “Back to nature” is a great example of a trend that is here to stay. But, wanting to bring the outdoors, indoors and doing it are two different things. After all, it isn’t going to happen magically. Good news, though, fellow design enthusiasts: you are not alone.
Here at All About Interiors, we understand that you need inspiration. So, that’s why this post has come up with the best tips for bringing the outdoors, indoors this autumn.
This is what every self-respecting homeowner/designer should know.
Don’t Go Overboard
It’s easy to think that leaving the door open or cracking a window will suffice. Sadly, it won’t because there is the heat factor to consider. Let’s face it – you want the home to be lovely and cozy. So, opening the entry points at the end of September isn’t an option. Mother Nature might find her way inside, yet everyone inside will freeze to death. With this in mind, keep the entrances firmly on lockdown. Also, South Jersey Window says you should repair any windows and doors which let the warm air out. Failing that, Glazing Expert says that double-paned glass is the way forward. Ironically, the first port of call is to keep the elements out before bringing them inside.
Use Living Things
Okay, so there is no place for wild animals to run around the house. Unless they are dogs and cats, they are not welcome. But, just because they don’t bark or meow doesn’t mean they aren’t alive. What are we talking about? Its plants, silly! Like all living things, plants and flowers go through the stages of MRS GREN. From breathing to excreting waste, they are very much alive. More importantly from a design standpoint, they add a new dimension. Not only are the colors vivid, but they are a reminder of the season. Plus, plants take in CO2 and release oxygen, keeping the air nice and fresh just like outside.
Add Warmth With Wood
One thing which you must do to pull off this effect is to add a sense of warmth. Now, the temperature doesn’t have to hit summer highs because that isn’t what “warmth” means. Rather, the house has to give off a sense of coziness and security. Like all properties, the best ones are relaxing and welcoming at the same time. There are lots of ways to achieve this effect, yet wood is the best. Due to its color, it stands out immediately from the rest of the materials. Also, it isn’t cold or bare like tiles and other supplies. Plus, it is a living thing and mixes in with the plants and flowers perfectly. Wood flooring is the leading example, but coffee tables and kitchen countertops are alternatives.
The Accessories
You will gravitate toward the big features, yet it’s the small details which make the difference. With this in mind, don’t overlook the home’s accessories. Things like a lampshade or kitchen table are easy features to naturalize. For example, you can switch a plain lampshade with a homemade one which uses hay or straw. Not only is it unique, but both are textures which smack of the Great Outdoors. Regarding the kitchen table, you can add a linen cloth with a raw and rugged energy. You can even put stones and crystals in a jug and place it on the bedside table. Simply put, accessories are your best friend when it comes to interior design. When you add natural elements to the mix, they take on a new persona.
Replicate With Color
What’s a better way to remind you of the outdoors than with color? When you think of the fall, certain shades will spring to mind. From browns to yellows, they will fill your mind with memories and recollections. So, adding these colors to your home will remind you autumn on a daily basis. Because yellow is a hard color to mix, brown is the best option. In fact, a dark shade of brown is both warm and not vivid at the same time. This means it is easy to mix it with other shades for an all-around color scheme and to combine with the rest of the house. Plus, a tin of paint is a cheap way to pull off the trend.
If going back to nature is your bag, the tips above are the best ways to get the look.
