Use a Roller
Buying and using a roller will make your life infinitely easier. They come in multiple lengths and widths, so you can pick the one that is the best fit for you. When using a roller, you want to try and avoid lap marks. These are where uneven layers of paint start to build up. To avoid this, try to go from the top to the bottom of the wall in one even roll. Don’t go so far that you hit the baseboard or runner that is at the top or bottom of your wall, as you likely don’t want to get paint on this at all. Keep your roller topped up with fresh paint and try not to let it get dry and this will help to allow you to make it all the way up your wall.
Use Tape On The Top and Bottom Of The Wall
If you run some masking tape along to the top and bottom of the wall, then if you go over slightly you won’t get paint where it isn’t meant to be as easily. This also prevents any paint dripping down from the wall onto the floor as easily. Once you are finished with the body of the wall, then you can take the tape off and then just fill in the edges with a smooth brush.
Get Painting Help
Enlisting a family member, friend or colleague to help you paint will make the job that much quicker, easier and more fun. You divide the work, and you have someone to talk to during a task that can sometimes end up being a little dull. If you are planning to paint a lot of your house, either the exterior or interior, then you might consider hiring a professional like Confident Coatings. It means that you don’t need to find time in your busy schedule to paint so much and you can rest easy knowing that an expert is painting your house.
Keep A Rag Handy
Stills, drips and mistakes happen when painting. It is completely normal, and you should expect it to happen at some point. That is why you should always have a rag handy. This way you can mop up any drops or mistakes quickly before they become a larger problem. Just keep one in your back pocket or within arm’s reach, so you don’t need to hunt for one later.
Before Painting Cover Things
If you still have furniture in your room, then you are going to want to cover it. Paint can splash from the wall and travel surprisingly far, and you don’t want any of your furniture to get paint spots. Having some old bed sheets or other kinds of covering will avoid this kind of thing. Covering your things is one of those preemptive measures that can save you a bigger headache down the line, and it only takes a few minutes to cover everything. You should also cover the floor around where you are painting. You don’t want to get paint all over your carpet or floorboards.
