Architrave molding is one those home décor words that you either know or you don’t. Most traditionally styled homes use architrave molding in the interior design. It is something that is rarely replaced.
What is Architrave?
Architrave is similar to skirting board. Architrave molding is used to create a frame for a wall or floor. Creating a seamless join between the two. The key difference between architrave and skirting board is that architrave is generally used over and around doorways.
Advantages Of Using Architrave In Interior Design
One of the key advantages of using architrave is that it can mask architectural flaws such as uneven walls or workmanship flaws such as cracked plaster or imperfect finishing. It is available to purchase in a range of different materials with MDF, Pine, Oak, Walnut and Maple being the most common.
Choosing the right architrave for your home, office or public space is not as daunting as it may first seem. Even so, it is useful to get a professional opinion when it comes to your interior design. If you are unsure, please contact us at All About Interiors.
Which Architrave Style Best Suits You?
For most people, the best starting point is to assess the style that you are going for. If you are keeping other design aspects in place then keeping things on style is probably the best way to play it.
Like most interior design elements, architrave is available in a complete range of styles. Architrave molding can usually be modified to fit with existing styles. This includes color schemes, with a splash of paint. For more traditional styles of décor you will most likely opt for the more intricate and detailed styles such as Ovolo and Ogee. Whereas, more contemporary spaces will be complemented with more simple designs. These include square edge architrave or single grooved designs.
Colorful Architraves
In terms of colors, you can go as bold or as neutral as you like when it comes to architrave. It really just depends on your overall concept for your space. Again, it is always helpful to speak to an interior designer when it comes to this. For flowing open spaces, lighter colors such as brilliant whites work wonders and for contrasting, in smaller spaces darker colors can work wonderfully.
There is no definite need to use architrave molding in every room in your home but traditional homes with traditional features really come to life when fitted with all the trimmings. Architrave molding is a trimming that will really bring character in to a room. Modern spaces can well do without so long as the walls and doorways have very few or no imperfections. However, if you want your contemporary space to have contrasting materials and/or colors then architrave molding and skirting is a great and easy way to achieve this.
