We all want our home to smell good. However, did you know that good scents can also have an effect on our mental attitude? Aromatherapy is a proven stress relief and could be a way of making your home a cozier and more relaxing space. If you are looking to have a nice smelling home and reap the benefits of essential oils, here are a few ways of introducing aromatherapy scents to your home.
Use an oil diffuser
Oil diffusers burn fragrant oils that help to make the air smell fresher. Unlike the chemicals found in most air fresheners, these oils are natural and better for you. I am a huge advocate of essential oils. Oil diffusers have been found to have all kinds of health benefits. Ranging from helping with sleep to elevating your mood to relieving pain in some cases. There are many different types out there. An oil diffuser for a large room may be better for open plan homes or halls, whilst there are oil diffusers more suited to smaller rooms that can produce a more subtle scent. Many of these oil diffusers are very cheap to buy. By experimenting with various different oils you can bring a new aroma to you home every week.

Use scented candles
Scented candles are another way of bringing sweet aromatherapy to your home. They can also provide mood lighting and are perfect for setting a romantic tone. There are all kinds of scented candles out there. There are seasonal candles, such as cinnamon candles for adding a Christmassy smell. Some scents have dual purposes such as citronella. Known for getting rid of mosquitoes. Find candles that burn clean with cotton wicks and are made of soy for a healthier option.
Buy sweet-smelling houseplants
Various house plants can bring natural aromas to your home. Spearmint is perfect for a bathroom offering a minty fragrance. Place it near a window for the best care. Jasmine and Spanish lavender plants can also be grown indoors. With enough care, you can even grow gardenia indoors. This plant is often referred to as the ‘crown jewel’ of plants. This plant is renowned for its strong and beautiful smell.
Try carpet deodorizers
There was a time when most people used carpet deodorizers. They’ve fallen out of fashion, but can be effective at bringing a beautiful smell to your carpets, which is useful if you’ve got pets. Deodorizers work when sprinkled onto the carpet and then sucked up. The carpets are left smelling fresh. There are also deodorizers out there for sofa fabrics and curtains.
Boil home-made scents in a pan
You can create your own DIY scents simply by boiling ingredients in a pan. This can be great for masking bad kitchen smells. A popular recipe involves boiling orange peels and cinnamon in a saucepan of hot water. You can add apple peels and cloves for a richer smell. Boil lavender, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon in a pan for another homemade scent. You can even leave the mixture in a bowl and put in a specific room to freshen the air out.
