Building a home can be a daunting experience. Before you begin, there are four people you should reach out to. Put down the blueprints. Take off your hard hat. Get out your mobile phone. Before you start any sort of house construction project or building a home, there are four people you need to call first.
Contact Local Authority Before Building A Home
Before you begin any home building project, you may need permission from the local authority or planning department. Don’t start any part of the project before you’ve got planning permission. Don’t think that you’ll get away with it. Local authorities are legally within their rights to have you dismantle a project to the ground if it does not conform to rules and guidelines. They can also do this even if it does, but you have not asked permission. There could also be penalties, fines and even imprisonment thrust upon you. This is especially true if you are building within a city. You might also need to check zoning permission. However, there are some areas in the USA that if you are building a home in the countryside. If you are building on your own land, you don’t need permission. Just be sure to check beforehand, no matter what your project or location is.
Contact Neighbors Before Building
Once you’ve got the go-ahead, it is important to let the neighbors know. This is common courtesy, above all else. It’s impossible to do house construction in utter silence. They will be disturbed occasionally, and they deserve to know this.
Be friendly and warm, but be firm about the fact that you have permission and that you will be building a new home. If possible, tell them when building will and won’t be taking place. You could set up a deal with them that you can build a home as much as you want during the day, as long as any noise stops after 7 pm, for example.
Give them as much notice as possible. If they have babies or young children in the house, they will appreciate time to sort this out. They might also have another property that they can stay at. Once you’ve set out your rules of engagement, exchange phone numbers so you can keep in touch. Check in every now and again to let them know how it’s going.
Contact House Design Experts Before Building
Before you speak to your architect or building contractor, have an idea in your mind of your ideal new home. New home décor comes later. For now, you need to think about the layout and the floor plan of your new home. Whether you’re downsizing or up sizing, the floor plan is critical to the success of building a new home.
