There’s nothing quite like watching a home decoration job come together. After weeks of sweat, tears and yes, paint, that bright, imaginative picture in your mind can finally become a reality. But it’s getting to that point which can prove troublesome, especially if you have a large surface area to cover. Painting your home isn’t fun – let’s be honest – it’s just the fact that it will be over soon that makes us want to carry on doing it.
Everything from the marks on your clothes to cleaning the paint trays afterward… it’s just a pain. Can all these annoyances be overcome? Yes. Here’s how to make painting your home a breeze!

Nail holes in the top of the paint can ring
Paint can rings are notorious for collecting all that excess paint. This paint will then sit there and dry up rapidly, which is quite wasteful. Plus, if you’re trying to put the lid back on some of this paint can splash back into your face. Not good.
So, grab a hammer and some nails and put a few holes in the top ring! This will allow some of that excess paint to drip down back into the can. You’ll get more value for your buck and should stay cleaner as a result!
Outsource Painting
Look, sometimes, we all just need to take the easier way out. We all know that painting can be hard, especially if you have lots of it to do. One option here is to pay your kids to do some of the more simple painting jobs, but there’s no guarantee they’ll do it well!
Alternatively, you could look into working with a team house painters. If you have too much housework to be getting on with, perhaps leaving a simpler task – like painting – to the painting experts else would be wise.
Line your paint trays and holders
Basically, anything that will hold the paint from which you’ll load up your brush. Whether it’s a tray or a bucket, by lining it with something, you make cleaning up after yourself much, much easier.
This lining could be a thick, plastic carrier bag, or it could be some layered aluminum foil. You could even use some old clothes or towels! This way, the paint will get on the lining and will not go all over the tray or bucket. No cleaning required!
Wear old clothes
A quick tip now, and a slightly obvious one, but make sure you are wearing some old clothes. This reduces the risk of you spoiling an item of clothing that you actually like. Better safe than sorry!
Keep white spirit handy
This will ensure you can remove any slight paint scuffs from your skin, quickly. Don’t use too much white spirit though. It can be damaging in larger amounts. Just dip the tip of your finger in then out.
Ultimately, painting is a small household change, so make it feel like one! It shouldn’t be a chore, or a hardship. Best of luck next time you pick up the brush!
