If you talk to most interior designers, they’ll tell you a large kitchen is an ultimate goal. Having said that, small kitchens can be great in their own way. There’s less stuff to clean, they’re quite cute and quaint, and you’re always within touching distance of something you need to use.
The main issue is that small kitchens often feel overcrowded and cramped. Bearing that in mind, are there any ways you can make a small kitchen space feel a lot bigger? There are several designer tips you can use! We’ve put our best ideas down in the points below:

Get Rid Of Your Toaster
Toasters are arguably the least essential item in a kitchen, and yet almost everyone has one. You can make toast by sticking some bread under the grill, it’ll take just as long, and you can actually see how dark it gets too. A toaster can take up lots of space on your kitchen surfaces and isn’t really necessary. A grill is built into your cooker unit, which doesn’t take up extra space.
Organize Your Cupboards & Cabinets
Most people have lots of things on their work surfaces taking up loads of space. This could be spices or items you don’t think you’ve got room for in your cupboards/cabinets. You’ve most likely just have poorly organized cupboards that need some help. You can buy little shelf organizers to put inside your cabinets and create more space. Putting more items in there instead of wasting all the empty space in the top half of a cabinet. Thus, you clear things from your surfaces leaving your kitchen looking more spacious.
Space-Saving Trash Cans In a Small Kitchen
Often, your kitchen trash can can use up a lot of space and make the small area feel more cramped. It can get in your way and be a real nuisance. If you want the best kitchen trash can ever, you need one that saves space. Try and find something that can fit inside the cabinet under your sink making sure it’s hidden out of the way. Or, look for a really slim one that might fill the gap between kitchen units. Either way, get your trash out of your main kitchen area and hidden away.

Use The Walls In A Small Kitchen
If you’re really struggling for space, you can make life easier by using your kitchen walls. Chopping knives in a chopping knife holder can take up a lot of surface space. Get a magnetic strip for your wall and stick the knives to it! Consider nailing some hooks to your walls and hanging pots and pans on there. This frees up cupboard space for other items to clear the surfaces some more.
After these tips have been applied you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much bigger a small kitchen will look. It’s simply a case of making the most out of your cupboard space and keeping your surfaces clear. The less stuff there is on your kitchen counters, the bigger the room looks and feels.
