A lot of parents experience the challenge of their children not wanting to sleep in their own bedroom. This can be incredibly frustrating, and you may have felt like you have tried all of the tricks in the book. However, have you considered making changes to the design of your child’s bedroom? This can have a bigger impact than you may think. In fact, the mere fact that their room is undergoing a decoration can create an excitement that makes them want to spend all of their time in there. This is already a good start, but how do you make sure that the bedroom is sleep-friendly?
Place a chart on the wall –
One way to encourage your child to sleep in their bedroom is to place a chart on the wall and offer up rewards if they can stay in their bed for up to a week.
Invest in quality storage –
Think about how you feel when there are stacks of paper and piles of clothing everywhere in your bedroom. It makes it hard to relax, right? Well, children aren’t going to be any different. They won’t be able to drift off if there is homework, dolls clothes, and Lego everywhere.
Wall mural –
This is a great project that you and your child can enjoy together. By designing a wall mural with your little one, you get to create a unique piece of art that will spark their interest. What child doesn’t love sticking their hands into paint and putting handprints onto various surfaces? By doing this on the wall, you create a personalized bedroom, and you spend time with your child in the room during the activity. This encourages them to get used to the space, and they will find the environment more welcoming. There are plenty of other quirky and exciting ways to decorate your child’s bedroom. Choose something that involves them, and they may develop an attachment to the room.
All About Interiors
Choose colors wisely in your child’s bedroom –
When picking a color palette, stay away from any dark or harsh colors that could spark up negative emotions. For example, if you are going to use red or a dark shade of blue, keep it to a minimum, and choose another color for the overall base.
Make comfort cool –
Your child isn’t going to appreciate the mattress you spent a fortune on or the Egyptian cotton bed sheets you purchased to make sure they have a snug sleep. Instead, you need to make comfort cool, and luckily, there are a number of ways you can do this. Foam bag chairs for kids are a great start. What kid doesn’t want his or her own beanbag? Stacks of cuddly toys can also bring comfort to their bedroom – just make sure they feature your child’s favorite cartoon character. And, of course, swap the boring duvet cover for something more exciting!
Reading lights –
Lastly, invest in some reading lights for your child. This will allow them to keep the light on without using the harsh overhead light. After all, bright lights can trick the internal clock, making it more difficult for children to drift off.
