Relocating to a new house is by far one of the most stressful experiences that people put themselves through. Once you’ve made the decision to move, it seems to take a lifetime to pack up all of your belongings, clean the house, and get everything else ready. However, when moving day rolls around, all of this prep work seems useless. Things inevitably go wrong and everything descends into complete chaos. Mistakes are always going to be made when planning something so huge, but if you want to make the day as stress-free as possible, then try to avoid making any of these common ones.
Not Sorting Your Schedule
Moving is a huge and incredibly complex experience, and is one that needs to be planned thoroughly. If not, then you may forget to do something or not give yourself enough time to get everything done. You need to make a list of everything you need to do, how long it will take, and when is best to complete each task before you start anything, . This way, you won’t forget anything and have to rush to do it last minute.
Trying To Do It Alone
Whether you’re moving across town or country, you should never try to do it on your own. Sure, a DIY job may seem like the cheaper option. However, you’ll think differently when you start clearing your house and drop your television down the stairs or pull a muscle and can’t move anything else. It makes a lot more sense to hire one of the many moving services out there and not take your chances. In order to get the best you can, make sure you give yourself enough time to research a few different ones.
Forgetting About Pets & Kids
With everything else you have to remember, it’s easy to forget that your children and pets are also moving too. Unfortunately, you can’t just pack them away with your DVD collection. Although you might not want to see your little ones and furry friends as “getting in the way” while moving. They’re going to be in the way if they’re left to their own devices. If you can, it’s always best to have someone look after them for the day. This way they don’t get hurt in all the chaos.
Not Packing Essentials Separately
It’s important to remember that you’re not going to be unpacking all of your boxes on the first night in your new home. This means that, if you’ve packed everything you immediately need with all of the rest of your belongings, then you’re going to have to go through loads of boxes to get what you need. It’s vital that you pack all of your move-in day essentials, such as coffee, toiletries, pajamas, and fresh clothes, separately, so they’re easily accessible.
Moving house is stressful enough, without making any silly mistakes. If you want to keep your day as calm as possible, then avoid making the mistakes mentioned above.
