Through the Roof
Winter plays havoc with our roofs, even if there’s not heavy rain outside. The cold weather can crack shingles on our roof and give moisture a chance to get into our homes. If there is a crack and your roof is covered in several feet of snow, then there’ll be an opportunity for water. A lot of water to slowly drip into our homes. You’re not expected to search for cracks in your roof during the middle of winter. However, you can look at the ceilings and check if you can see any discoloration or any other signs that water might be getting in. At that point, you’ll have to call the professionals in. It’s not a problem you want to go unattended.
Heating The House In Winter
Having an efficient heating system is a luxury during fall and spring. It is an absolute necessity during winter. Not having a source of heat in a home can cause plenty of serious problems. Not to your house, but to the people living inside it. If your furnace won’t turn on or your boiler is broken, make sure you stock up on plenty of blankets, thermals, and other sources of heat until it’s fixed. If your pipes are frozen, it’s imperative that you turn off the water that flows into the pipes as soon as possible. Frozen pipes are liable to crack and burst, which can flood your home.
Falling Branches
One of the biggest threats to your home during winter isn’t even part of your house. It’s what is outside that could damage it. Ice and heavy snow fall can cause tree branches to snap off. While severe weather conditions can result in a whole tree being toppled. If the tree is located close to your home, it could strike your property and cause plenty of damage. As we’re already in winter, check on trees around your property. Make an assessment: do they look vulnerable? If they do, or you’re not sure, call a tree surgeon and get it taken care of by a professional.
…and Ride It Out
Winter can often feel like it’s never going to leave us, but hold out hope: Spring will be on its way soon enough. And that stage, you’ll be able to clear through the damage and get fixing any issues in preparation for next winter!
