Whether your home is large or small, it’s all about creating a space that works for you and your lifestyle. And let’s face it, some of us don’t have the luxury of having tons of separate rooms for every task. As incredible as it would be to have a separate entertainment room, dressing room, walk-in wardrobe, home office and craft room. It’s not going to be realistic unless you live in a mansion! However, you don’t need several separate rooms for work and play. With just one spare bedroom you can create an awesome, multifunctional home office space containing everything you need. Here’s how you can go about it!
Focus on the Desk
A large desk gives you plenty of space for all of the different functions in the room. Rather than buying one or two desks that take up a lot of space, consider a custom one with different stations. You could possibly have it made using lengths of kitchen worktop. Run the long desk along one or two walls to create a couple of different ‘stations’ for each task. One section of worktop could have your laptop or computer setup with a printer next to it. This will allow you to work from home, blog or pay bills easily.
Another station could have an area for crafts and hobbies. Lastly, you could have a mirror with your cosmetics and beauty products. It would be a smart idea to have an electrician fit you some extra sockets either above or below the desk, so you do not have to mess around with extension leads.
Create a Chillout Area
At the other side of the room, you could go with a sofa or comfy armchair in front of a home audio video system. If you have your tv mounted onto the wall, it will take up less space. A small cabinet underneath the tv will house boxes, cables, consoles, games, and DVDs. Use a rug to help define this area, and plenty of soft furnishings like throws and cushions will make it extra comfortable. If you’re constantly battling with your partner or family over the tv, this gives you your very own area to use instead! It’s far better than having a tv in the bedroom, as this can lead to bad habits of watching it in bed and it keeping you awake. Keep your room as a relaxing haven instead.
Think About Storage
When a room is being used for lots of different tasks, it’s important to find the right storage to keep everything together. You could have a large drawer installed under each station at the desk to keep all of your essentials together. Alternatively, you could go with shelves or wall mounted storage, or use acrylic storage on the desk itself. Having a fitted closet installed along one wall would give you floor to ceiling storage offering a ton of space to work with. Ideal if you’re using the room as a dressing room too.
Converting a spare bedroom into a home office space isn’t as daunting as one would think. You might need assistance from a professional interior designer in Avon Connecticut to get the process started and get some great ideas to boot.
