I’m excited to welcome April Hill to the blog this week to talk about her 5 favorite interior design trends for 2015.
I have a feeling that 2015 may end up the most exciting year ever for interior décor and design lovers. The best part… the interior design trends predicted this year are simple, and you don’t have to completely start over and drain your savings. I sifted through all of the predictions to come up with my five favorites.
5). Wallpaper
One of the biggest comebacks predicted for 2015 is wallpaper… not the kind you remember from your childhood.
From digital prints to textured wall coverings,” said Zillow Digs designer Jamie Beckwith of Beckwith Interiors. “This trend is primed and ready to take off in 2015.” The possibilities are endless with more wallpaper patterns, colors and textures available than ever before.
Don’t want to commit? There’s an option for you too. Removable wallpaper now comes in a wide variety of patterns due to increased demand.
4). Mixed Metals
Remember the days when mixing gold and silver was a huge faux pas for everything from jewelry to decorative fixtures? It’s time to break the rules and you don’t have to feel like the only one wearing white to the wedding.
Interior decorators are using mixed metals to avoid a staged look. Mixing it up can give your home a more edgy vibe. The trick is to keep the accents minimal. Don’t overdo it.
3). Greek Blue
“Pops of indigo blue or deep navy will become a staple in home design this year, as their deep natural hues become extra vibrant against warm earth tones like Marsala,” said Kelly.
I love this vibrant color on anything. Use it to cover an entire wall or just a throw pillow. Either way you can’t go wrong.
2). Mid-Century Modern
Well, I have to admit I was thrilled to see this style on the main-stream websites. I’ve loved 1950s décor ever since I can remember.
“Home design will embark on a dramatic shift in 2015,” said Zillow Digs design expert Kerrie Kelly. “Expect to see a more sophisticated look in 2015 that incorporates gold hardware, natural textures, and a subtle mid-century modern undertone.” Design experts say be very careful here. Add elements to your home but don’t let it take over. A little goes a long way.
1). Mix and Match
Mix and match is another design that I love for 2015, mainly because it allows you to incorporate current décor with new finds. You don’t have to completely reinvent the wheel when adding this step.
Think of mix and match as your little friend. Go ahead and let your cowgirl come out AND still keep your refined elegant side.
Don’t be scared. And if you get stumped, hire a professional. A few hundred bucks can get you a map for your belongings.
Don’t worry. You’re still creative and fabulous if you hire a pro. Think of it this way…. do you hire a professional when you want a family portrait?
