Do you spend your evening in an uninspired and boring living room? If so, then you probably dream about jazzing it up a little, introducing color, texture, and pattern. Of course doing so need a careful hand and an editing eye, lest it becomes overwhelming. So with that in mind read on to find out how to inject a little magic into your boring living room without going over the top.
Color
If you think that a living room space can only be decorated in neutral colors, prepare to have your mind blown! In fact, you can pretty much use any color that you want. As long as you know how to coordinate them properly you can combine a bold color with a softer color.
Bold choices include reds and pinks, as well as darker accents on the furniture and accessories. When using colors like these ensure that you fully commit and go for the riches hues available and as well as a luxe feel with the rest of the decorations. After all, they will have to be fairly bold to stand up to the rest of the room and now get drowned out.
Texture
Texture is also really important when trying to introduce a little magic into the living room space. If everything is flat and boring without any dimension, it can easily become pedestrian. Instead use a combination of layers in everything from the walls, to the floors and soft furnishings.
If you are going with carpet, always pick a thick carpet. This will act as a base in these sort of rooms as they are voluminous enough to stand up to be layered with rugs and heavy furniture. They are also easy to clean too if you use professional like JT’s Carpet Cleaning for the job. Something that makes them a good investment for the long-term life of the space.
Remember to combine more luxuriant textures in the room as well. Use materials like velvet, velour, and jacquard in the soft furnishings, and varnished and gilded wood and metal in the rest of the room.
Pattern
Of course, if you are truly trying to inject a little pizazz into the living space you should not rule out using some bold and outrageous patterns either.
In particular, don’t forget animal skins and prints. Faux of course! These are wonderful in a living room space. They provide a bold pattern that acts as a focal point. Bringing your eye to particular elements that you wish to highlight, as well as adding a little whimsey to the whole design.
Lighting
Light and magic are so intertwined. So it’s not really surprising that you should pay special attention to the light in a living room that you want to be stunning and atmospheric. Work with a darker lighter scheme for a little mystery, highlighting particular features here and there for a pop of interest and whimsy.
To achieve this look built in, up-lights in cabinets can be as useful, as can spotlights. Also, don’t forget to use dimmers and dramatic hanging pendants that provide a sense of movement and shape that will add to the dark magic of the room.
