Beach houses – we love them. We love them because they make us think of happy memories
made on a vacation with our loved ones. In a beach house, we relax, we entertain, and we do
everything in a stress-free manner. So, why not turn your regular house (or an apartment) into
something that will evoke these kinds of feelings? It doesn’t matter whether you live on a beach
or not, with the right décor, any house can be a beach house. However, if you don’t know what
you are doing, you may accidentally turn your beach house into one, big, hot mess. And, instead
of creating a coastal sanctuary, you may create a cluttered hotel room filled with summery
goods. But, don’t worry – we are here to help you out. We prepared some inspiring tips for
adding style to your beach house. Thus, if this is something that tickles your fancy, keep on
reading.
Layers, Layers, Layers!
When it comes to adding style to your beach house, you simply can’t go wrong with layers. And,
don’t worry, adding layers can also be one of those budget-friendly interior updates if you know
what you are doing! Well, even if you don’t know what you are doing, playing with layers is fun
and can rarely go wrong. For instance, if your beach house looks dull, you can add layers in form
of rugs, cushions, throws, baskets, pots with plants, beach artwork, etc. Of course, try to make
everything look coherent – choose colors and lines that go with one another (blue, yellow, white,
gray, etc). And, choose materials that compliment one another (wood, stone, marble, etc.).
Add a Ton of Comfort
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about beach houses? It is
probably having a nice, relaxing time with the people you love, right? Of course! So, to achieve
this ‘feeling’ you must add a ton of comfort to your beach home. Thus, when choosing furniture
for your beach house, always put comfort first. Buy sofas beds, armchairs, and ottomans, that are comfortable. Then, fill the rooms with pieces that don’t ‘scream’ fragile – instead, opt for
something sturdy and something that won’t evoke feelings of fear in people passing by it.
If you want to take our advice and replace all of your furniture with something more
comfortable, that is amazing. But, don’t start throwing things out – you never know when you
will need them again. Instead, rent a storage nearby.
California is full of them and they are a great solution for excess pieces. You can even hire pros to help you prepare and carry everything to that storage, so, you have no excuses.
Blue Hues Are a Must
Okay, is a beach house actually a beach house if it doesn’t have blue hues here and there? Not
really! Beach houses just have to have some blue tones and tins. Of course, you don’t have to
repaint the whole beach house in blue, and you don’t have to make all the furniture’s upholstery
blue, etc. But, you should add some blue touches. For example, you can add a blue sofa or an
armchair, or you can add some blue paintings and décor pieces, or simply put a blue rug in your
living and dining rooms. Moreover, if you decide to do this – be careful about the colors of the
rest of the interior. The color blue should be paired with earth colors – gray, beige, light brown,
or even something yellowish or pastel-like. If you like what you hear, now is the perfect time to
consider these home upgrades and changes!
Beach houses and the color blue just go with one another.
Pastels and Stripes are Beachy
If you have some money in your budget, you can consider adding style to your beach
house by repainting the walls and changing the upholstery on your furniture too! For instance,
besides the color blue, beach houses also ‘love’ pastel colors and stripes. So, repaint the walls in
your beach house in soft yellow, green, or even pink. And, change the upholstery on your sofa or
dining room chairs into something with stripes (blue and white stripes are your go-to colors and
patterns).
However, when doing these types of renovations, we strongly advise moving out for the time
being. Breathing in the paint fumes can be extremely dangerous. Because of all the harsh and
hazardous chemicals that are being put into the paint nowadays, more and more people have
been compiling. So, find a temporary place to stay, and move out until the painter get the job
done. If you need help with packing, many useful pieces of information such as how to pack for a short-term move or how to pack the furniture in the house so that it stays protected while renovating.
Use Nature’s Materials
Some of the last but certainly not the least tips for adding style to your beach house is using
nature’s materials! Just like previously mentioned, beach houses should be filled with
comfortable pieces and pieces that make you feel ‘snug as a bug’. To achieve this, you can use
hard lines, too expensive materials, and sterile looks. Instead, you should opt for floors made of
stone, furniture made of wood, wicker and rattan, upholstery and other linen made of cotton, etc.
All these materials are supposed to make your bedrooms more relaxing, your living rooms more
fun, and your dining rooms more inviting.
As you have seen, adding style to your beach house doesn’t have to be complex or expensive.
You just have to turn to the right colors and materials. And, you have to allow yourself to have
fun – that is the sole purpose of having a beach house.
