In most cases, a new bedroom marks the start of something fantastic. The bedroom is where you spend roughly a third of your life because you should be spending at least 7 to 8 hours a night sleeping on a mattress. You also spend time in your bedroom getting changed, relaxing and even working sometimes. The centerpiece to every bedroom is, of course, the bed. It’s usually in the center, it usually costs a lot, and it’s usually the first thing that attracts your attention.
If you undertake a bedroom renovation, then chances are you’re probably thinking about things like decor, extras to add to the room itself and, in some cases, electronics to install. Sadly, the last thing on your mind is probably the bed itself! While you might get new bed covers, duvets, sheets or pillows, the mattress itself is sometimes forgotten. You may even replace the bed frame because it’s more visible than the mattress itself, but still neglect to change it!
As important as bedroom design is, you can’t neglect practicality and functionality. If you want to make your bedroom renovation worth every penny, then here’s a guide on how to choose the perfect mattress for your needs.
Spring Mattresses
Traditional mattresses are usually constructed with springs. These are cheap to make, relatively comfortable and very affordable. This makes them the default choice for many buyers, but low-quality spring mattresses can be incredibly uncomfortable and break easily. They give excellent support over your entire body when sleeping and the comfort level really depends on the brand you buy. This is the economical choice for most people.
Foam Mattresses
Foam mattresses mold to the shape of your body, giving you an extremely comfortable sleeping position. This helps if you have back pains or joint aches because the surface automatically adjusts to fit your body. Foam mattresses can be incredibly expensive, but they’re worth every penny if you have muscle aches and pains from sleeping.
Gel Mattresses
The gel trend was lead by Serta and has continued to grow strong over the past couple of years. Gel mattresses are unique because they provide excellent comfort during hot summer months. The main selling point of a gel mattresses is the cooling properties it has, giving owners a comfortable night’s sleep even during hot nights. Most gel mattresses usually use a combination of other methods, such as springs, foam or even latex. This makes them a moderate cost option that works in combination with other brands. If you live in a hot climate, then you may want to consider getting a gel mattress.
Combination Mattresses
Lastly, we have combination mattresses. These can be relatively expensive but promise fantastic support all over your body. They provide the fantastic support that foam mattresses do while also giving you the cooling properties of a gel mattress. They also have the comfort of using springs at the bottom, making it a fantastic jack-of-all-trades choice. Unfortunately, being so diverse it’s also not great at doing one certain thing. It doesn’t provide as much support as a foam mattress, it’s not got the cooling properties of a gel-focused mattress, and they aren’t as cheap as spring ones.
